A Rich and Active Sports Life

A quality student life is important—students at the Naval Academy participate in numerous sporting activities including rugby and sailing, which are both official sports of the Navy.

Rugby reflects the values that can be found daily in the life of a crew on a warship. To create an effective crew—ready to sail far, over long periods, and to fight— the same values of cohesion and combativeness that you need to win out on the rugby pitch. In the “Entente Cordiale” trophy, which takes place every year, the French Navy team plays other teams, including the Royal Navy’s “marinettes” team!

The Iroise Sea and the roadstead of Brest provide an exceptional and particularly challenging environment for learning about offshore and inshore sailing. The competition fleet includes J80s, Longtzes and Open 5.70s.
