Cyril Ray est enseignant-chercheur à l’Institut de Recherche de l’École Navale (IRENav) depuis octobre 2005. Il est titulaire d’un doctorat de l’Université de Rennes 1 mention Informatique obtenu à l’issu de l’année universitaire 2003. Il a effectué sa thèse à l’Institut de Recherche de l’École Navale entre septembre 1999 et septembre 2003. Alors membre du groupe de recherche en SIG de l’Institut de recherche de l’École navale son projet de recherche portait sur l’étude des systèmes distribués et la contribution que de tels systèmes informatiques peuvent apporter pour la modélisation et la simulation de système en transport. Il a effectué un post-doctorat de deux ans dans le projet ACES à l’IRISA à Rennes. Il travaillait alors à la conception d’un système d’exploitation Java pour terminaux mobiles.
Les activités de recherche actuelles dans le groupe SIG de l’IRENav concernent les systèmes de transport intelligents (ITS), les systèmes d’informations géographiques (SIG) mobiles ainsi que les techniques de simulation multi-agents (SMA). Ces thématiques sont développées d’une part dans le cadre urbain notamment au travers de relations académiques avec la Chine, et Québec et d’autre part dans un cadre maritime au travers de relations avec les partenaires régionaux.
Dans le domaine de l’enseignement, et au sein de l’École navale, Cyril Ray assure la fonction d’enseignant en informatique. Les domaines informatiques enseignés sont principalement l’architecture des ordinateurs, les systèmes d’exploitation, les réseaux, les systèmes distribués et embarqués, la simulation et l’intelligence artificielle.
