Laurent Guillon est maître de conférences en acoustique sous-marine à l’École Navale depuis septembre 2001. Il est titulaire d’un doctorat d’acoustique de l’Université du Maine (1999), préparé au centre IFREMER de Brest. Avant sa nomination à l’École Navale, il a été Ingénieur de Recherche contractuel au Laboratoire de Mécanique et d’Acoustique (UPR CNRS 7051) à Marseille (1999 - 2001). Il est également chercheur associé au laboratoire E3I2 (Extraction et Exploitation de l’Information en Environnements Incertains, EA 3876) de l’ENSIETA. De février à août 2006, il a été "visiting professor" au laboratoire ARL de l’Université d’Etat de Pennsylvanie (http://www.arl.psu.edu/).
Dans le domaine de la recherche, ses sujets d’étude portent sur la géoacoustique basse fréquence : modèles de propagation du son dans les sédiments, réflexion et diffusion, techniques de caractérisation des fonds.
Dans le domaine de l’enseignement, il est rattaché au département Signal et Acoustique. Ses interventions concernent plus particulièrement la propagation d’ondes, les systèmes utilisés en acoustique sous-marine et le traitement du signal associé.
